I, Jose Romualdo “Rom” Baldillo Cumagun shot Philippine eagle Pamana!
I say so because my best efforts to learn more about him weren’t good enough.
What do I really know about the Philippine eagle?
I shot Pamana because I did not teach my family enough about the wild birds of the Philippines.
When did I teach my wife and four children about Philippine raptors?
I shot Pamana because I did not integrate love for wildlife enough in my lesson plans.
Was I able to integrate bird calls in my corporate communication lessons?
I shot Pamana because I did not write enough about how much the Philippine eagle means to me. I remember in my younger years that it was originally called as the monkey eating eagle and it was only when it was being called the Philippine eagle that my awareness was piqued.
Did I strive hard enough to love and protect our national treasure?
I am claiming Environment Secretary Ramon Paje’s P100,000 reward to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer of Pamana (Philippine eagle found dead in Mount Hamiguitan Range in Davao Oriental).
I am the man who shot Philippine eagle Pamana; I have killed myself.
WE NEED MORE ON LEGISLATION TO PROTECT AND PRESERVE OUR WILDLIFE ESPECIALLY THE PHILIPPINE EAGLE. UNLESS WE DO THIS AND PUTIN MORE FUNDS WE WILL FOREVER LOSE OUR EAGLE. CALLING THE ATTENTION OF OUR PRESIDENT, SENATE PRESIDENT, SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR A MORE RESPONSIVE LAWS PERTAINING TO THE PRESERVATION OF WILDLIFE PARTICULARLY THE PHILIPPINE EAGLE. AND THE JUDICIARY FOR A MORE ACTIVE JUDICIAL RESPONSE

Thank you for your comment Pedrito. In this previous post, there is a law that protects the Philippine eagle and there is in fact a reward of P100,000 for any information regarding the shooter. What we need I think is an 1) education campaign that will link the natural resources and tourism, 2) a feasible community based eco-tourism livelihood program for common folks. With income as motivation, the people will have at least second thoughts before killing the bird. We have several models and what comes to mind is Donsol, Sorsogon where the people now take care of the whale shark because tourism in the area is booming. https://advertisingandromcumagun.wordpress.com/2015/08/21/pamana-rests-but-not-in-peace/

Man’s crave for wealth and urbanization has created too much fragmented landscapes, taking away the bird’s natural habitat. This is a great initiative Rom, I applaud your article, and I’m looking forward to your next section.
