No, Not Gangnam Style

To recognize Korean-Filipino science research collaborations during the 115th ITDI anniversary opening ceremonies, the music played was not Gangnam Style; it was The Korean National Anthem.

Rightly so because The Korean Institute for Material Science, the leading natural composite technologists, the biggest supporter of the Industrial Technology Development – DOST,  is also the reason why Juan de la Cruz Tryk (tricycle) drivers have a chance to acquire abaca fiber composite roofs.

Lupang Hinirang Stakes Abaca Fiber

This year another milestone… as Tryk ni Juan (abaca fiber composite tricycle roofs) is launched by ITDI-DOST and KIMS-ASEAN or the Industrial Technology Development Institute – Department of Science and Technology, Korean Institute for Material Science – Association of Southeast Asian Nations

The Philippine National Anthem is usually sung perfunctorily during government sponsored events but that wasn’t the case in the 115th Anniversary of  ITDI. Led by the chorale, abaca fiber stakeholders sing Lupang Hinirang as if the marching tune and patriotic lyrics all work together to stake abaca fiber aspirations.

Lupang Hinirang
Music: Marcha Nacional Filipina by Julian Felipe
Lyrics: official translation of Jose Palma’s poem Filipinas (1898)

Bayang magiliw
Perlas ng silanganan
Alab ng puso
Sa dibdib mo’y buhay

Lupang Hinirang

May mang-aapi
Ang mamatay ng dahil sayo

Filipinas
Tierra adorada
Hija del sol de Oriente
Su fuego ardiente en ti latiendo está.
Patria de amores
Del heroismo cuna,
Los invasores
No te hallarán jamás.
En tu azul cielo, en tus auras,
En tus montes y en tu mar
Esplende y late el poema
De tu amada libertad.
Tu pabellón, que en las lides
La victoria iluminó
No verá nunca apagados
Sus estrellas y su sol.
Tierra de dichas, del sol y amores,
En tu regazo dulce es vivir.
Es una gloria para tus hijos,
Cuando te ofenden, por ti morir.

ITDI Chorale Opens 115th Anniv – Power of Your Love

This year another milestone as Tryk ni Juan is launched.

The Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI), a multi-disciplinary Research and Development Institution (RDI) under the Department of Science and Techonolgy (DOST) celebrates it 115th founding anniversary. From its humble beginnings in 1901, it has grown into a globally competitive institution providing R&D and technical services to micro, small, and medium scale (MSMEs) industries, government, private sector, and academe. This year another milestone as Tryk ni Juan is launched.

The ITDI Chorale has chosen a most fitting song for the gathering’s invocation, The Power of Love, a song that express deep gratitude to the power that brought about 115 years pump priming S&T, generating technologies that provide solutions to the needs of its various stakeholders thru untiring experiments, research and development.

Lord, I come to You
Let my heart be changed, renewed
Flowing from the grace
That I found in You

Lord, I’ve come to know
The weaknesses I see in me
Will be stripped away
By the power of Your love

Hold me close
Let Your love surround me
Bring me near
Draw me to Your side

And as I wait
I’ll rise up like the eagle
And I will soar with You
Your Spirit leads me on
In the power of Your love

Lord, unveil my eyes
Let me see You face to face
The knowledge of Your love
As You live in me

Lord, renew my mind
As Your will unfolds in my life
In living every day
By the power of Your love

Hold me close
Let Your love surround me
Bring me near
Draw me to Your side

And as I wait
I’ll rise up like the eagle
And I will soar with You
Your Spirit leads me on
In the power of Your love

Hold me close
Let Your love surround me
Bring me near
Draw me to Your side

And as I wait
I’ll rise up like the eagle
And I will soar with You
Your Spirit leads me on
In the power of Your love

And I will soar with You
Your Spirit leads me on
In the power of Your love
And I will soar with You
Your Spirit leads me on
In the power of Your love
