Recoletos Sts. Intramuros, Metro Manila Dear Sir: I’m a sophomore management student at the Ateneo de Manila University. I’m an ordinary citizen of the Philippines and I wish to share a first hand reflection or shall I say reminder to the people in the system governing ordinary citizens — like me. In this time of national crisis, leadership is a very crucial aspect of society. In view of this, I wish to contribute an original poem entitled, “Leader’s Oath.” May this serve as a simple reminder to the leaders already in the system and to the individuals aspiring to be leaders of the system. Just in case my poem is not worthy of publication, please do return it to me immediately. I have enclosed a self stamped, self-addressed envelope. Thank You and More Power! Sincerely Yours, (Signed) Rom Cumagun LEADER’S OATH - I'm an ordinary citizen of the Philippines and I wish to share a first hand reflection or shall I say reminder to the people in the system governing ordinary citizens --- like me.
MARIKINA MAYOR ENDORSES GUN SPORTS - Businessworld reported today that "new guns bought already equal to 2014 figures. Compiled data from the Firearms and Explosives Office of the Philippine National Police (PNP) indicated that the number of new firearm purchases from January to July this year already reached 26,588, or 99.4% of the full-year figure of 26,732 reported last year." BW said that "Joselyn G. Jose, president of the Association of Firearms and Ammunition Dealers of the Philippines, Inc. (AFAD), believes that the local firearms industry can achieve its goal this year of doubling its earnings in the remaining months given the current situation an that she attributed the uptrend to the importance of security, making it the driving factor in the increasing sales of firearms during the period." THE PHILIPPINE CORPORATE ADDRESS BOOK adds more contributors to this positive trend: 1) the endorsement of Marikina City Mayor Del de Guzman to sports firing (in his jurisdiction is the world's biggest manufacturer of pistols and ammunition, ARMSCOR) and 2) the invitation of organizations like Marist Alumni Association 1983 to try out gun sports. During the opening day of Marist 83 Invitational Shootfest, Marikina City's dad endorsed responsible gun ownership. Del de Guzman stressed that "before one own's a gun, the owner should increase his knowledge about the weapon, specially about safety. He also praised popularizing sports firing such as what Marist 83 has organized. He said that events like this, aside from the camaraderie it encourages, also raise funds for good causes.
