I wrote this article originally as a requirement in Film Directing class under Marilou Diaz-Abaya, M.A. Communication, Ateneo de Manila University in 1993.

 

I thank her for all the things she taught me and for giving me a chance to work with her in Alamat ng Isang Pag-ibig, although the project failed to be completed for reasons beyond her control.

 

I thank her, too for inviting me to learn cinematography.

 

May she rest in peace.

Feel free to choose any theme you wish to develop. I suggest however, that you write in the science fiction genre both for tackling the themes of either Advertising or Natural Science. For students who are enrolled in both of my classes, you submit only one entry (as the workshop rules say) but get perfect score for the assessment of linguistic intelligence in both subjects in my class.

For those not joining: You are required to write a short story or poem and publish it in our mutual blogsite. Those not joining the contest are limited to the themes on science and advertising. The deadline for posting is the same deadline indicated in the competition guidelines. Not included in the guidelines, but since you are artists, you are required to add a visual component…

Tanging Wika

Ating simulan ang tulang ito

na para sa mga taong lilo

Ipagpapalit ang anumang may halaga

Ultimo ang ating pambansang wika

Sinilang sa perlas ng silanganan

Pagka-pilipino’y sa puso nananalaytay

Wikang Filipino ang kanyang kinalikha’y

Subalit mukhang ito’y kinalimutan

Bansa’y sinagip mula sa mga dayuhan

Di mabilang ang mga nagbuwis ng buhay

Upang magapi ang mga nanahan

Na kumitil ng maraming buhay

Tila nakapiit sa sariling bayan

Ang mga Pilipinong walang malay

Mga naglakas loob ay nangamatay
