SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY SEC’S MANTRA: INNOVATE

Prof. Fortunato T. Dela Peña, Jr., former president of the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) and former Undersecretary for S&T Services of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), as of today, is officially President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s Cabinet Secretary for Science and Technology.

He commended the launching of Tryk ni Juan in promoting natural abaca fiber composite in fabricating tricycle roofs — helping tricycle drivers be protected from the heat. He also encouraged the collaborative effort between the Industrial Technology Development Institute, Korean Institute of Materials Science, City of Taguig, GSS LUBTTODAI tryk drivers.

He hinted at the tone of his policy for the department by saying the “word INNOVATION should be appended to Science & Technology” and that each staff should have as a mission mantra “innovate, innovate, innovate…”

ITDI DIRECTOR: PUSHING SCIENCE & TECH FORWARD

Maria Patricia V. Azanza. PhD. Director, DOST – Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI), welcomed abaca fiber stakeholders during the center’s 115th anniversary.  She articulated that one of the myriad researches, finding ways for a greener environment, is a priority. The project for automotive applications being launched today, Tryk ni Juan (roofs made from composite locally abundant abaca fibers) is one such accomplishments with Korea Institute for Material Science which she is very proud of.

“It gives me great honor to lead a highly motivated and innovative institution like ITDI. Since its founding in 1901 it continues to thrive and has been ably pushing forward science and technology to where it is now. It is because we believe in our resources’ capability — our employees, scientists, technical experts backed up with state-of-the art facilities that enable us to sustain our business and services.”
